I knew this would be a fun session when Julie said she wanted to do it at the Brooks School boathouse in North Andover. She had gone to school there and rowed with the crew team back in the day, so we were able to use the area around the boathouse and docks for our shoot. Perfect! The evening was beautiful and the location had so much to offer. (Warning to other photographers — you need to have a connection with the school to use this location!)
This family was so much fun to photograph — Big sister Abby (age 5) was the perfect subject, and little Kyle (age 2) was totally adorable. With kids this young, it is sometimes tough to get them to look right at you and smile (especially both at the same time!), but in some ways, you get the most honest photos of them, because they are not mugging for the camera. They are just being little kids, and that’s exactly what I want to capture. Oh, and at the end of the shoot, I nearly melted when Kyle put his arms up in the air, looked at me and said “Up! Up!” Made me miss the days when I had a two year old.
