Today was a different kind of shoot for me — a long time friend of mine is now the Executive Director of the Highland Street Foundation and he asked if I’d be willing to photograph an event that the Foundation was hosting. If you have kids in the Boston area, you may be familiar with “Free Fun Fridays“, the summer program sponsored by Highland Street which provides free admission to Boston area cultural institutions and museums every Friday — all summer long!
This year Highland Street is partnering with the City of Boston, and the Boston Red Sox to sponsor “Out of the Park”, which will bring the excitement of Fenway to parks in Boston during three away Red Sox games this summer. The games will be broadcast on a big screen, and there will be bands, face painting, balloon artists, and of course — Wally! The first event is this Sunday, May 25th, so get your picnic blanket ready! You can check out the rest of the schedule on Highland Street’s website.
To kick off this fun summer program and spread the word, the Highland Street Foundation teamed up with Mayor Marty Walsh, Larry Lucchino of the Red Sox, Wally the Green Monster, and 40 pre-schoolers from the Ellis Memorial School, who were treated to popcorn, foam baseball mitts, and a ride on the Boston Common Carousel. I don’t think the smile left my face the entire time, as I watched these kids have a total blast and share their popcorn with the Mayor of Boston. And now, for the morning’s photos:
I’d say this is looking to be a pretty fun school day for these kiddos!
I’m not sure who I was more excited to photograph — Wally or the Mayor! They are both pretty great. : )
Here is David McGrath — a Trustee of the Highland Street Foundation.
And Larry Lucchino, President and CEO of the Boston Red Sox.
After the announcements, the kids were treated to popcorn, and had some time to rub elbows with the Mayor, Mr. Lucchino and Mr. McGrath.
It was a great morning! Thanks to Blake and Noreen of the Highland Street Foundation for inviting me to participate and for all you do for the City of Boston!
